Manhattan. The most popular private jet airport for New York City, in New Jersey about 12 miles from Midtown, with several full-service FBOs. Teterboro limits aircraft to a maximum takeoff weight of 100,000 lb. Super-midsize jets and most heavy jets are well within it.
- Midtown Manhattan: about 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic and tunnel
- Upper East and Upper West Side: about 30–45 minutes

Republic Airport (FRG)
Long Island & the Hamptons. On Long Island in Farmingdale, about an hour from Manhattan. A practical gateway to the North Shore and the drive east to the Hamptons. For Hamptons trips, we'll also suggest the best airport for your aircraft and dates, such as Gabreski (FOK) in Westhampton Beach.

- The Hamptons: about 1.5 hours by car, or a short connecting flight
Why Clients Fly LA to New York Private
Bicoastal Business
Media, finance, real estate and entertainment keep Los Angeles and New York tied together, and many TruNorth clients live on both coasts. Leave Van Nuys at 8:00 AM and land at Teterboro around 4:00 PM Eastern, in time for an evening dinner in Manhattan. There is no connection, no early check-in and no wait for bags.
Commercial: LAX to JFK is scheduled at about five and a half hours eastbound. Add the drive to LAX, security and boarding, then the trip from JFK into Manhattan, and most days run eight to nine hours door to door.
Media, Premieres & Press Tours
Network upfronts in May, premieres, late-night appearances and press days put LA talent and executives in New York on tight schedules. A private flight works around call times, not an airline timetable, and keeps travel discreet.
- Flexible departure times that move with your schedule
- Private FBO terminals instead of crowded public ones
- Room for wardrobe, equipment and cases
- Multi-city trips, such as LA → New York → Miami → LA

Can a midsize or light jet make the trip? Yes, but not nonstop. Midsize jets such as the Citation XLS+ usually stop once for fuel, and light jets once or twice. Each stop adds about 45 minutes. They can still make sense for smaller groups or flexible schedules, and we'll price both options on request. Compare aircraft →

How much does it cost to charter a private jet from LA to New York?
A super-midsize jet is about $34,500–$42,500 one-way, or $72,000–$89,000 round trip. A heavy jet is about $44,000–$54,000 one-way. Which New York airport is best for private jets?
It depends on where you're going. For Manhattan, Teterboro (TEB) is the most popular choice, about 12 miles from Midtown. For Westchester and Greenwich, use Westchester County (HPN). For Long Island and the Hamptons, use Republic (FRG) or, for the Hamptons, Gabreski (FOK). JFK and LaGuardia are possible but usually slower because of airline traffic.
Can a private jet fly from Los Angeles to New York nonstop?
Yes. Super-midsize jets such as the Challenger 350 and Citation Longitude, and heavy jets such as the Gulfstream G450, fly it nonstop. Midsize and light jets need one or two fuel stops. On westbound flights in winter, strong headwinds occasionally require a fuel stop even in a super-midsize jet with a full cabin. Your advisor will tell you in advance.
How many passengers can fly from LA to New York?
Super-midsize jets seat 8 to 10 passengers, and heavy jets 12 to 14. Fewer passengers leaves more room for luggage, golf bags and sleeping.
Can I bring my dog on a private flight to New York?
Most operators welcome pets in the cabin, usually with no extra fee. Tell us about your pet when you request a quote, and we'll confirm with the operator. More on flying with pets →
